Opportunity Knocks: Members Only Office Hours

Each month, Rev Members have the unique opportunity to attend Members Only Office Hours, where they can meet with local professionals to discuss their startups and ask business questions. Members come to Rev for informative, yet casual, conversations with successful, specialized individuals across a spectrum of industries. Local organizations like Sciarabba Walker LLC, Cayuga Venture Fund, and the Cornell Legal Research Clinic have all hosted Office Hours, offering valuable advice.

During their Office Hours in January and February, venture capitalists Ryoko Nozawa and Zach Shulman from Cayuga Venture Fund shared insights about what investors look for in an investment opportunity. The VCs also gave Members individualized feedback on their pitches and business models – and in some cases just had a catch-up chat.

Adriane Wolfe of Quinn Energy stopped by to chat with Ryoko Nozawa, a local venture capitalist with Cayuga Venture Fund.

Scott Morris, of Ithacash, has attended several Office Hours sessions and finds them to be helpful. “It’s really nice to have the opportunity to meet people working for these organizations in a casual environment, where we can discover more about the work we’re each doing and how we might be able to help one another,” says Scott. “[Office Hours] are an informative and valuable part of membership at Rev.”

In February and March, the Cornell Legal Research Clinic met with Rev Members to answer any legal questions the entrepreneurs had about their businesses. These sessions are part of the LRC’s ongoing commitment to provide legal expertise to the Ithaca community, taking in questions and using their training to provide guidance and answers.*

Brigid Hubberman, founder of Children’s Reading Connection, attended a session and said, “easy access to not just one, but a group of, legal minds is an incredible benefit.”

Greg Tumbarello of Firelight Camps, found his meeting to be “inspiring,” saying, “it gave us confidence to pursue some legally entangled goals… it was light, informative and cheaper than hiring a lawyer.”

Rev Members from Shrub Bucket meet with Venture Capitalists from the Cayuga Venture Fund.

Office Hours are only open to Rev Members and are an excellent way to gain personalized, quality advice from professionals in various industries. Rev Members are encouraged to take advantage of these free opportunities to meet with organizations who understand how to build a successful business.

To check out the upcoming Office Hours, please see the Rev events page. If you are a Rev Member, be sure to check out the Rev Member News for upcoming opportunities. While drop-in appointments are welcome, it’s always encouraged to RSVP ahead of time. Your RSVPs help our guests organize their sessions more effectively, and drop-ins may have to wait or may not get a slot.
