Leading the Phygital Revolution: MotionX joins Rev
MotionX, founded by Allan Zhao, is bringing merchandise into the phygital (physical + digital) era. They’re prepreparing to launch the Motion Headphone 1, which combines a foldable, noise-cancelling wireless headset with a high-definition screen and digital matrix, that can display ‘digital stickers’. This will enable users to customize the appearance of their headphones to match their style. MotionX aims to bring an end to environmentally destructive traditional merchandise and to help people integrate fashion into everyday carry items.
What is the “origin story” behind your company?
To make something more drippy than what we have? I have always been a fashion junky and was unsatisfied with the current fashion scene. There are reflective panels, there’s thermodynamic fabric, and there are NFC chips built into jackets. They are all cool, but what about something we are all too familiar with — a screen?
In college, I also observed the widespread use of stickers that people put on their personal stuff: laptops, water bottles, bikes, phones, and headsets. Those stickers helped facilitate many conversations that I valued. A digital medium would help to make stickers digitalized, which eliminates wear and tear while making them cooler!
What customer need is your company attempting to address?
There is a need for recognition, to express, to break the ice in a new social environment. By commercializing the digital space on our headphones, we will also help with the need to invest in and collect art. On the B2B side, we can help businesses and organizations to market and advertise themselves through our users.
Do you have any recent company milestones or accomplishments you would like to share?
Our first working prototype (Motion Headphone 1) just landed!
Where do you envision your company a year from now?
One year from now, our product should be up and running, reaching a large amount of customers. We will be in the process of building our digital sticker platform and advertising system, utilizing AI to draw up areas of interest in various US cities that encourage different content advertising.
In five years, we will have multiple product lines, including pins, backpack panels, and scooters. We will have stable cooperative relationships with major companies and organizations. Our services will be provided globally and have a wide-ranging customer base.
