Dos Amigos Delivers Gratitude and Grub to Essential Workers

The COVID-19 pandemic may have delayed the opening of the Dos Amigos’ brick-and-mortar in Ithaca’s Collegetown neighborhood, but it hasn’t crushed the spirit of founder Jorge Bouras and his team.

Dos Amigos recently launched “Burritos for Heroes” to thank essential workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, for every 50 orders over $10, the company is donating and delivering a burrito to essential workers. The first batch of burritos was donated and delivered to Cayuga Medical Center on Saturday, April 18, 2020 with plans to include other essential workers, such as law enforcement and fire safety personnel, in the future.

“We want to make a social impact wherever we can have a maximum effect. Right now, we think our first responders just need some love and that’s where the focus is, but as state and local government organizations begin to see funding dry out, we want to include them in the mix,” stated Bouras.

Ithaca’s beloved food truck has been operating in the Ithaca community for almost five years and has been a Rev member since January 2019. Bouras launched the food truck after completing his sophomore year at Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, because he missed the Cali-Mex style tacos of his hometown, San Diego, and saw an opportunity to fill a need in the community. Since their signature blue food truck hit the streets in 2015, Dos Amigos has attracted a loyal base of customers.

According to Bouras, the company’s motto “Making Life a Little Better,” is the foundation upon which the company is built. “Doing business without considering the greater impact in your community is just bad business,” said Bouras, “We see value in investing in our community. The better our community, the better our business will perform by every metric—period. With that in mind, now more than ever, it’s so valuable to contribute. As a community, we succeed and fail together.”

To support the “Burritos for Heroes” initiative, visit the Dos Amigos food truck at 536 Thurston Avenue from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, or place an online order for pick-up or local delivery on their website.
