Rev: Ithaca Startup Works Hosts Food & Hospitality Networking Night
OnThursday, June 28 from 6-8 p.m., Rev: Ithaca Startup Works hosted a Food & Hospitality Networking Night and industry innovators and startups from the local community shared their successes and challenges in growing their startups in Ithaca.
Emma Frisch, Culinary Director of Firelight Camps and author of the cookbook “Feast by Firelight: Simple Recipes for Camping, Cabins, and the Great Outdoors” kicked off the night with a warm welcome. She shared why she loves Ithaca so much and how she infused that love into her book using the local people, sights, and food that inspired her.
Greenstar served up some yummy hors d’oeuvres inspired by recipes found in Frisch’s book as attendees networked with each other upstairs and tried samples from many local businesses dishing out the best of what’s next in the food and hospitality industry.
Jason Goodman, CEO of Antithesis, spoke about how he’s using food science to create superfoods that taste like junk food. Grabanzos, the company’s first product, is a crunchy chickpea chocolate snack that tastes like a regular candy, bar but has lots of protein and fiber with less than half the calories of regular junk food.
Max Richmond, VP of Business Development at Farther Farms, shared how they are revolutionizing the food industry by creating a new way to preserve fruits and vegetables without using freezing, refrigeration, or artificial preservatives. The company has created a delicious never-frozen French fry with an extended shelf-life. It also boasts competitive pricing with traditional French fries and requires less energy during storage.
Jesse Harriott, roaster and shops operation manager from Copper Horse Coffee, and Karli Miller-Hornick and Allan Gandelman, CEOs at NY Hemp Oil also gave presentations speaking about their new products and how excited they are to be working with Rev: Ithaca Startup Works.
Join us for our next networking night on August 9thfrom 6-8:30 p.m. for the Hardware Accelerator Demo Day. Rev’s Hardware Accelerator teams will pitch their companies and showcase the prototypes they have been working on over the previous 11-weeks. Register for the event here.
