The Logic of Profit: Understanding Start-Up Economics

January 30, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Are you an aspiring or existing entrepreneur or small business owner who has lots of ideas but not a lot of finance knowledge? Do you want to understand the key financial drivers of your business without having to drown in accounting? Are you hesitant to raising outside capital because you are afraid of the “numbers” questions the lenders or investors might ask?  If so, come join us for this introductory session on the basic concepts and ratios you should understand to launch and manage your business effectively.

Dr. Susan Fleming is a Senior Lecturer of Entrepreneurship at Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration with expertise in the areas of finance, entrepreneurship, business strategy, insurance, negotiation, organizational behavior and issues of gender diversity. She advises a number of early stage start-ups, is an active angel investor, and a member of UNY50. Susan also serves on the board of Virtus Investment Partners, Inc., a publicly traded asset management firm; and Endurance Specialty Holdings, Ltd., a publicly traded global insurance and reinsurance company.  Before retiring from Wall Street in 2004, Susan was a Partner with Capital Z Partners, L.P., a $1.85 billion private equity fund focused on investing in the financial services sector and an Analyst in M&A at Morgan Stanley.
