Senior Analytical Chemist

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Analytical Chemist to join our team in a pivotal leadership position. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the foundation of our analytical capabilities from the ground up, establishing laboratory infrastructure, methodologies, and protocols that will drive our scientific excellence and commercial success.

As a key member of our scientific team, you will combine hands-on technical expertise with strategic vision, playing a central role in both the immediate establishment of our analytical laboratory and the long-term growth of our scientific organization.

 

Responsibilities

Laboratory Development & Operations

  • Lead the setup and commissioning of our new analytical laboratory space, including equipment selection, layout optimization, and operational workflows
  • Design, develop, and execute analytical test methods for comprehensive material characterization
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory activities, ensuring robust documentation practices and regulatory compliance
  • Establish quality control systems and validation protocols to ensure data integrity and reproducibility

Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate directly with executive leadership on company planning, translating scientific insights into strategic business decisions
  • Provide expert guidance on scientific goals, capabilities, and technological roadmaps
  • Represent the analytical function in cross-functional team discussions and planning sessions

Team Building & Development

  • Play a key role in building and expanding our scientific team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing talent
  • Foster a culture of scientific rigor, innovation, and collaborative problem-solving

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline with demonstrated expertise in biological materials
  • Proven experience performing analytical laboratory testing in a commercial/industry setting
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant commercial standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices (e.g., ISO, GMP, GLP)
  • Track record of developing analytical methods and establishing laboratory procedures
  • Excellent technical documentation skills and attention to detail
  • Hands-on experience with most of the following analytical instrumentation: Mass Spectrometry: Experience with various MS platforms and applications for molecular characterization
    • Chromatography: Preparative and analytical chromatography techniques including HPLC, GC, and related separation methods
    • Microscopy & Materials Characterization: High-resolution microscopy (SEM, TEM, AFM, or confocal) and related materials characterization techniques
    • Spectroscopy & Imaging: FT-IR spectrometer (Spectrum 2 or similar), spectrophotometer (Nanodrop or equivalent), fluorometer (Qubit or similar), gel/blot imaging systems (Li-Cor Odyssey or comparable)
    • Microplate Systems: Multi-mode microplate readers with fluorescence, absorbance, and luminescence capabilities
    • Sample Prep: Rotary evaporators, automated digital refractometers
    • Electrophoresis: Power supplies and tank systems (mini, midi, wide, and large format)
    • Homogenization & Sample Processing: Rotor-stator homogenizers (handheld and benchtop), high shear fluid processors (Microfluidics or similar), ultrasonic homogenizers
    • Materials Testing: Universal testing machines (Instron or equivalent), rotational viscometers
    • Microscopy: Inverted microscopes for materials characterization
    • General Laboratory Equipment: Analytical and semi-micro balances with densimetry capabilities, autoclaves, PCR workstations, water purification systems (Milli-Q or equivalent)
