The Center for Regional Economic Advancement at Cornell University fuels economic growth and diversity in Upstate New York through entrepreneurship and innovation.

What we are looking for

CREA is looking for marketing, communications, design, and photography interns for the 2022-23 academic year.

Cornell University’s Center for Regional Economic Advancement, based out of the Rev: Ithaca Startup Works in downtown Ithaca, is looking for marketing, communications, design, and photography students to help us in our mission to empower entrepreneurs and help grow startups in New York. Perks of working with CREA include meeting entrepreneurs, investors and government officials from across Upstate NY, creating compelling and unique portfolio pieces, and connecting with local startups that are growing and actively hiring.

Job Opportunities

Graphic and Website Design Assistant

 

We are seeking a self-starter with strong interests in website management, graphic design, and social media content generation to join our team. The successful candidate will bring new creative ideas, be able to work independently and manage multiple competing deadlines.

 

The internship will be based out of Rev: Ithaca Startup Works in downtown Ithaca. Some night work will be required including monthly networking nights and occasional events on Cornell’s campus.

Summary and Responsibilities 

  • Design elements such as: 
    • Email newsletter headers 
    • Event promotion graphics 
    • Flyers 
    • Brochures 
    • Logos 
    • Website graphics
    • Social media graphics 
  • Assist in updating websites on WordPress CMS systems 
  • If interested and have experience: 
    • Take photos at events (when they return to physical events) 
    • Edit and create simple videos 

 

Qualifications 

  • Students with degrees (in process or complete) in communications, marketing, art, graphic design or a related field 
  • Must have professional attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and execution 
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment where change is common; capable of setting priorities under pressure 
  • Must have an ability to work and collaborate with others under little supervision while demonstrating a positive, purpose-oriented work ethic 
  • Must have experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud, Slack, and website content management systems 

 Starting date is August 30, 2022, 15 hours per week to start, $16 per hour.  

Multimedia Assistant

 

We are seeking a self-starter with strong interests in photography, videography, and photo and video editing to join our team. The successful candidate will bring new creative ideas, be able to work independently and manage multiple competing deadlines.

 

The internship will be based out of Rev: Ithaca Startup Works in downtown Ithaca. Some night work will be required including monthly networking nights and occasional events on Cornell’s campus.

Summary and Responsibilities:  

  • Capture photographs at events 
  • Schedule photoshoots with startups and student groups to capture headshots, product photos, and team photos  
  • Resize and edit photographs to be used on websites and in printed pieces
  • Shoot and edit video interviews in person and over zoom
  • Capture video footage for social media, feature videos, and more

Qualifications: 

  • Student majoring in (or recently graduated with a degree in) journalism, communications, marketing, photography, cinematography or a related field  
  • Available to go into the office in Ithaca, New York approximately 2 days per week (15 hours per week)
  • Must have professional attention to detail, accuracy, organization and execution 
  • Have experience working with Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment where change is common, capable of setting priorities under pressure 
  • Must have an ability to work and collaborate with others under little supervision while demonstrating a positive, purpose-oriented work ethic 
  • Must have samples of past work for application to be considered

Marketing and Communications Assistant

 

We are seeking a self-starter with strong interests in writing, event promotion, graphic design, and social media. The successful candidate will bring new creative ideas, be able to work independently and manage multiple competing deadlines.

The internship will be based out of Rev: Ithaca Startup Works in downtown Ithaca. Some night work will be required including monthly networking nights and occasional events on Cornell’s campus.

Summary and Responsibilities

  • Create content and a posting schedule for a number of social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Draft content that can be used for blogs, social media, and email newsletters
  • Collect, resize, and organize photos and logos
  • Help in the creation of email newsletters
  • Create simple graphics using Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and/or Canva
  • Collect social media and website metrics for quarterly reports
  • Aid in event promotion

Qualifications

  • Student majoring in (or recently graduated with a degree in) marketing, communications, journalism, or public relations
  • Available to go into the office in Ithaca, NY about two days per week
  • Must have professional attention to detail, accuracy, organization and execution 
  • Have experience working with Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment where change is common, capable of setting priorities under pressure 
  • Must have an ability to work and collaborate with others under little supervision while demonstrating a positive, purpose-oriented work ethic 
  • Must have samples of past work for application to be considered
