SUMMARY:Women and Negotiations: Asking for and Getting What You're Worth
DESCRIPTION:Why do women negotiate less than men? How do stereotypes and unconscious bias conspire to make negotiation a dangerous proposition for women? And more importantly\, how can these be overcome – by individual women and their male and female managers? What are some of the basics of good negotiation (for anyone – male or female)? And are there any special tips to help make women more effective negotiators? During the session\, these questions (and more) will be explored and addressed. \nDr. Susan Fleming is a Senior Lecturer at Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration experience with expertise in the areas of finance\, insurance\, business strategy\, negotiation\, organizational behavior and issues of gender diversity. She currently serves on the board of Virtus Investment Partners\, Inc.\, a publicly traded asset management firm; and Endurance Specialty Holdings\, Ltd.\, a publicly traded global insurance and reinsurance company.  Before retiring from Wall Street in 2004\, Susan was a Partner with Capital Z Partners\, L.P.\, a $1.85 billion private equity fund focused on investing in the financial services sector and an Analyst in M&A at Morgan Stanley. \nDoors open at 6:00pm and presentations will be from 6:30-7:45pm. DESCRIPTION:On August 11th\, Rev: Ithaca Startup Works presents the second annual Rev Hardware Accelerator Demo Day: “Making Meets Business” – a free event for the entire community. Rev Hardware Accelerator teams have spent 12 weeks working to move their product ideas from concept to prototype. Each team received support from Rev mentors and technical instructors throughout the summer\, as well as access to Rev’s Prototyping Shop and up to $2000 worth of materials to use in creating their prototypes. Demo Day is their chance to show off all of their hard work! \nDemo Day will be held in room G10 of Cornell University’s Biotechnology Building. The event is free for everyone and all are encouraged to attend. The event opens at 6:00 PM and will run until 9:00 PM\, with booths for each team and special prizes for lucky attendees. The Demo Day presentation and team pitches will be held at 7:00 PM. \nEveryone at Rev is very proud of this year’s Rev Hardware Accelerator teams. From two recent Ithaca High School graduates\, to team members from Cornell University and Ithaca College\, to an Ithaca resident who has lived here since 1978\, Demo Day is the chance to see some of the many innovative ideas that Ithaca’s entrepreneurial ecosystem has fostered.
